WHY STONE PAPER

Waterproof through the sheetNot a wax coating. Wax-coated paper is cut to size after coating, so the cut edges are bare and draw water in — a few wet days in the field and the block is pulp. Stone paper has no bare edge.

Ordinary pen or pencilNo special stylus and no dedicated refill to carry in the supply chain. Pencil erases cleanly; ballpoint stays legible wet.

Takes field abuseMud, snow, dirt, oil and wear. Made for dirty, sweaty and humid conditions rather than protected from them.

Map work built in7 × 7 mm grid throughout; the MIL models carry a cm ruler and 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scales on the inner cover.

Which size units usually take: A13MIL for the breast pocket, A33MIL when the notebook sits next to a map, B23 as a field book — it also carries basic knots and the NATO phonetic alphabet. C43MIL and C53MIL are command-post sizes.

Stone paperMineral-based sheet, not wood pulp. Waterproof throughout rather than surface-treated.

Procurement questions

Is it really waterproof, or just water-resistant?

Waterproof through the sheet. The usual failure point on wax-coated notebooks is the cut edge, which is bare and wicks water into the block; stone paper has no bare edge to wick through.

What do you write with?

An ordinary ballpoint or pencil. Pencil erases cleanly, ballpoint stays legible when the page is wet. Nothing proprietary is needed.

Which size do units usually order?

A13MIL (76 × 130 mm) for the breast pocket and A33MIL (96 × 148 mm) when it has to sit beside a map. B23 is the fullest field book at 128 pages. A4 and A5 sizes go to command posts.

Which models carry the map scales?

A13MIL, A33MIL and B23 have the cm ruler and 1:25 000 / 1:50 000 scales on the inner cover. The A4, A5 and A103 carry the 7 × 7 mm grid only.

Can you supply unit quantities?

Yes. Standard part numbers ship from Estonian stock; larger volumes are quoted with a lead time. List the part numbers and quantities per line in your enquiry.
